Ben Kraef Trio <br/> THINK OF ONE

Ben Kraef Trio

Ben Kraef – tenor sax
John Patitucci- bass
Albert “Tootie” Heath- drums

The idea behind this album was to record in a way that captures the spontaneity and importance of communication within an acoustic jazz trio.
“Think of One” brings together three generations of jazz musicians, with John Patitucci and Albert Tootie Heath appearing together on record for the first time.
The trio got together on a hot September day in Brooklyn and recorded the songs featured on the album: all songs are first takes and thus accent the in-the-moment experience that makes jazz music so special for musicians and listeners alike.

Ben Kraef’s new project features bassist John Patitucci (who also appeared on Kraef’s first recording as a leader), as well as legendary drummer Albert Tootie Heath.
The band got together in September 2012 to record a program that consists of standards and original compositions by Kraef. Although this is jazz in its classic form, with the composition acting as a vehicle for improvisation and spontaneous arrangement, the pieces do not follow familiar patterns. The focus lies on improvisation and subtle surprises within the structural, melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic spectrum.
The result is a grounded sound that is both fresh and alive.
